Foods which will help with hair health

Today I am going to discuss how a balanced diet can impact your hair health. After completing my nutrition course this week, I have really found it really interesting to understand the correlation between diet and our hair health.

To have optimal health and healthy hair a balanced diet is a must. A diet containing protein, fruits, vegetables, grains, and a sufficient amount of fat about 40-60%. The B vitamin group is significantly important for healthy hair the body, if the body is under threat it will go into fight or flight mode – the vital organs will be prioritised the hair follicles will be the first to go.

The essential omega-3 fatty acids from Flack seed, chia seed and Tofu, and fish such as salmon, berries, avocado, proteins, vitamin B12, and iron, can prevent a dry scalp and dull hair colour. Dark green vegetables contain high amounts of vitamins A and C, which help with production of sebum and provide a natural hair conditioner. Legumes provide protein to promote hair growth and also contain iron and zinc which promotes hair growth. Brazil Nuts contain high sources of selenium and therefore are important for a healthy scalp. Alpha-linoleic acid and zinc are also found in some nuts and help condition the hair and prevent hair shedding. Protein deficiencies can produce weak and brittle hair, and can eventually result in loss. Dairy products are good sources of calcium, a key component for hair growth.

All in all a balanced diet is necessary for a healthy scalp and hair. I will discuss scalp health in next weeks topic.

Have a happy and healthy week.

Lots of love
